HHS English Department Vision
High-level student learning stems from: 1) building a strong classroom community where student voice and choice increases the likelihood that students will take responsibility for their learning (and therefore more readily internalize and master the core standards). 2) teaching English/language arts recursively and interdependently (i.e. reading, writing and communicating are inextricably linked). 3) expecting students in every grade level to apply core language skills and concepts as they interpret, discuss and produce increasingly more complex and stylistically mature written responses.
Our English department is a recipient of the 2012 Washington State Achievement Award for Language Arts.
